I recently visited Buzz-a-Rama, a slot car race track in Kensington, Brooklyn. I'm guessing that not much has changed inside since it opened in 1965. Driving the small, brightly colored electric cars around a track was fun but the real star here is the tracks themselves. They are curvy, groovy and striped with primary colors.
I took some inspiration from a recent NY times piece in which Christoph Niemann used legos to construct icons of the city. I thought I'd even simplify it a bit and so I limited myself to a few washers and a small medal rod.

Waking kids up in the morning is no easy task. I recommend pulling up their blanket and sliding playing cards in between all of their toes. It's effective and IF they wake up in a good mood you can always play a quick hand of poker. 
There is no place I would rather be in the summer than in the country. Any countryside. Anywhere. But in the winter there is no place to me that feels bleaker. It's as if the country is a giant sponge and it just soaks up and holds all the melancholy that is winter. Cities and towns some how feel more neutral. They are large and dense with big personalities and the weather carries less influence.

I recently came across this lovely picture by a well known photographer. I was completely surprised when I found out who made it. So I'm offering, to the first person who can correctly identify the photographer, a print of their choice from any one of my images that are on this blog. One small hint. It's not someone who's work is typically associated with traditional notions of romance and beauty.
I really have nothing against tattoos. Some rise to the level of "very cool" though I have to admit that I've seen few, if any in my opinion, that rise to the level of art. While they have an ancient and storied history they have become so ubiquitous, ordinary and common that any association they once had with danger, rebels, risk takers, outrageous characters, rock and rollers, etc... has long ago vanished. They now sit comfortably in the polite realm of suburban grandmothers, millionaire athletes and Ivy League bankers. Too often they are a one liner that lasts forever. A kind of 'Ground Hog Day' playing over and over on the body. There are some though, that still have the power to surprise. To make you pause and ask yourself ..."what the fuck" ?
