Picasso was absurdly prolific and gladly wrestled with any medium he could get his hands on. Usually with success. I particularly like these early self portraits below. But what am I blathering on for. I think the 'Modern Lovers' said it best.
"Well some people try to pick up girls
And get called assholes
This never happened to Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare and
So Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole
Well the girls would turn the color
Of the avacado when he would drive
Down their street in his El Dorado
He could walk down you street
And girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso never got called an asshole
Not like you
Alright
Well he was only 5'3"
But girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso never got called an asshole
Not in New York
Oh well be not schmuck, be not abnoxious,
Be not bellbottom bummer or asshole
Remember the story of Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole
Alright this is it."

A Tooth Twice Lost
My daughter recently lost her first tooth. She was very excited to finally have it out of her mouth and in her hand. So excited that she quickly lost the tooth. Again. For good. The Four of us then spent a futile hour crawling around on hands and knees in search. It's amazing how many errant pieces of popcorn and grains of rice you can find hiding in the nooks and crannies of your home!

Birds Of A Feather
Will fly together. So many of us were riveted, and surprised, by the recent story of the US Airways jet that safely landed on the Hudson River. It was forced to make an emergency landing there after a number of birds accidentally entered, and destroyed, its engines. Unsurprisingly bird and plane encounters have been happening since the invention of flight. The first image is from the archives of the New York Times.

Action Jackson - Jacques Henri Lartigue
There are few photographer's whose pictures are just simply more fun to look at than Jacques Henri Lartigue. Considered a true child prodigy and born into a wealthy, French family in 1894 his work conjures up the best romantic and fictionalized notions of what living in this particular world might have been like. The sun is always shining and everyone is at play and in motion with, what at the time, surely must have been the best toys imaginable. Cest Bon!

Sleigh Riding Brooklyn Style
The recent snow was a great opportunity for a little sleigh riding. Of course here that means finding a hill and some grass. For a dose of extra excitement we chose a nook that abuts a busy road, a bridge and a highway.

Playing Hooky To Walk Into The Future
I made my son miss school today. We happily played hooky in order to attend the presidential inauguration viewing at City Hall. We marched across a frozen, quiet and still snowy Brooklyn Bridge, entered Manhattan, and jogged up the stairs to enter City Hall. A large screen was set up in the legislative chamber and the event was broadcast to a mostly youthful, partisan and wildly, enthusiastic, New York crowd.

The Kids Are All Right
I love, love, love these pictures of President Obama. So many of us can probably relate to these kinds of silly pictures we all made of our friends and of ourselves at this age.

Standing On Balconies
The first image below is of an anonymous individual standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. Martin Luther King had recently been murdered in 1968. Tomorrow, in 2009, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States and he will be standing on quite a different balcony all together. You can't help but feel pride and awe at both the great sacrifices and progress made by so many that made this day a reality.

Quotes Of the Day - Jan Groover Gets Her Groove On
"With photography I did’t have to make things up; everything was already there."
"Walker Evans is a collagist in a certain way. It's so obvious from his pictures that he moves trees."

There's Something About A Pink Dress
The coveted dress was hand carried, closely guarded, flown 1000 miles and finally worn and partially destroyed with gleeful joy and enthusiastic abandonment.
