It certainly looks that way. I don't know if Atget knew Van Gogh's work or if he just happened to visit similar terrain some 20 years after Van Gogh's death. There wouldn't be anything unusual about two artists both exploring nature and the country side. I was struck recently after looking at a book of Van Gogh's drawings at how many Atget pictures I kept seeing. Over and over. The few images below are just the tip of the ice burg.

although almost identical in subjest matter and angle i feel as though they are both successfull in different ways.
