Standing On Balconies

The first image below is of an anonymous individual standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. Martin Luther King had recently been murdered in 1968. Tomorrow, in 2009, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States and he will be standing on quite a different balcony all together. You can't help but feel pride and awe at both the great sacrifices and progress made by so many that made this day a reality.

Somehow I don't feel that of MLK's balcony and Kennedy's swearing-in are the most hopeful things we can think about as "O" comes in. Possibly anxiety-producing. Maybe it's just me.
